Kaivalya Kumar Gurav is a leading young Kirana gharana vocalist. His family have long been immersed in the tradition - Pandit Ganapatrao Gurav, his grandfather, was a disciple of the gharana’s founder Ustad Abdul Karim Khan.
Kaivalya’s extensive training led to him becoming one of the youngest singers to receive a top grading from All India Radio and Doordarshan (the national TV channel), although he almost pursued careers in engineering and business instead. He also specialises in bhajans and Marathi music.
"Without disturbing the essential melodic fluidity of Kirana vocalism, I try to allow the poetry and the rhythm a bigger role in the communication of the emotionality of the raga"
